Apurimac River Rafting

Raft the Apurimac River, arguably one of the world's top ten rafting rivers, and enjoy a mix of exhilarating rapids and breathtaking scenery.

Travel from Cusco deep into the heart of the 3000-meter deep Apurimac Canyon to challenge the rapids of the mighty Apurimac, once known as "The Great Speaker" by the Incas. Journey for four days of wilderness rafting, carrying all supplies, past pristine sandy beaches, sun-bleached rock formations and the chance of spotting rare wildlife. No experience is necessary as training is provided by our expert crew. Travel with us today and meet the challenges and thrills of this non-stop adrenaline-pumping roller coaster ride of a lifetime.

Day 1 - Cusco to Apurimac River
Depart from Cusco in the morning for the 4-hour drive to the Apurimac Canyon with a hopeful glimpse of the snow-capped Vilcanota mountain range before descending into the canyon to our starting point on the backs of the Apurimac. Here we inflate our specialized rafts, load up with provisions, and following a full safety talk and instruction in the art of white water rafting, we head off into the canyon in search of adventure. L, D

Days 2 and 3 - Apurimac River
For the next three days we challenge the rapids of the mighty Apurimac. The rapids are almost non-stop, and at times huge boulders that block our way force us to the bank for further scouting. At several points we have to portage impassable falls. At night we camp on beautiful sandy beaches and explore the amazing rock formations. Andean foxes, otters and pumas have all been sighted on the banks of the river. In between the harder rapids there is plenty of time to take in the beautiful scenery and marvel at the near shear-sided gorge down which we are traveling. B, L, D

Day 4 - Apurimac to Cusco
Finally we reach a break in the canyon walls where we rendezvous with our bus and journey back to Cusco, passing on route the towering snow-capped Salcantay Mountain. We arrive back in Cusco in the late afternoon for a hot shower and a well-earned rest to reflect on a successful descent of the mighty Apurimac Canyon. B, L
