Example 7-day Itinerary

Day 1:Arrive Salvador early a.m. Breakfast at airport and connect to Nordeste Airlines to Barreiras. Arrive Barreiras 12:45 (lunch is served on the plane; snacks for the journey will be available) Board taxis or bus (depending on the size of the party) for the four hour ride to arrive at Hyacinth Cliffs just before sunset. Dinner and early bed. Overnight at Hyacinth Cliff Camp. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 2:Morning bird watching hike to cliffs, afternoon observation of Hyacinth macaw flocks. Night option to see Maned Wolves. Overnight at Hyacinth Cliff Camp. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 3:: Looking for Brown Capuchins and Howler monkeys in the gallery forest early a.m., drive back to Barreiras for flight to Salvador and overnight at Mar Brasil, a three star hotel located 50 feet from the beach and one of Salvador's most famous landmarks, the Itapua lighthouse. Dinner at Mistura Fina, a combination Bahian Mediterranean restaurant. Overnight at Hotel Mar Brasil. (Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 4:: Early departure for Canudos, historic city in northeastern Bahia and 45 minutes from the Lear's Macaw (one of the world's rarest macaws) nesting grounds. Overnight in Canudos after short city stroll. (Continental Breakfast)

Day 5:: Early observation of Lear's Macaws at feeding locale.(different from nesting grounds) Excellent opportunity for photography. Lunch in Canudos and afternoon departure to Salvador. Overnight at Hotel Mar Brasil. (Continental Breakfast)

Day 6:: City tour, with special visit to the historic Pelourinho neighborhood, which contains some of the oldest intact examples of colonial Portuguese architecture, followed by afternoon visit to site just north of Salvador for photographing tufted-ear marmosets at very close range. Overnight at Hotel Mar Brasil. (Continental Breakfast)

Day 7:: Visit to Praia do Forte for a look at the Tamar Turtle Project. Bahia has four rare species of sea turtles. Lunch at Praia do Forte and return for farewell dinner and departure to US or Europe. (Continental Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
