This exhilarating hiking itinerary
takes you off the beaten path to explore Guatemala like few can! This private
tour begins by climbing an active volcano, then takes you deep into the
remote & traditional
Mayan highlands where you will hike through spectacular volcanic scenery
on local trade routes and see remote, colorful local markets. Stay
in a local home stay to learn more about the typical way of life here
and visit the Maya God Maximon after traveling on the high altitude lake
of Lake Atitlan with her majestic volcanoes and then climb temples in
the jungle at the world famous site of Tikal.
We will meet guests off their flight and transfer
guests approximately 1 hour to the beautiful city of Antigua. Overnight in Antigua.

After a continental breakfast, we will transfer guests to the town of San Juan Comalapa, which is famous for its local market. Once here we will have approximately 2 hours time to wonder throught the market and admire the work of native painters. After lunch we'l enjoy hiking and biking down to Totonicapan. We'll bike for about 2 hours and a distance of 15 km/9 miles. That evening guest will stay overnight with local familes.The tour includes guides, transfers and mountain bike rental.
After breakfast,
we will transfer guests even deeper into the Guatemalan highlands to the spectacular Zunil mountain range. Here you will enjoy stunning views. At times, you can see ten volcano peaks all at the same time! We will enjoy this magnificent scenery while hiking along the ridge. We'l ike for 2 hours of 5 miles/8lms. of moderate up and down hiking from 350mts/1165 feet gain. During the hike we'll stop in a local village and watch a presentation on weaving art. After lunch we'll transfer to the shores of Lake Atitlan. Overnight at Lake Atitlan.
After breakfast we will be transfered by boat on what many have called "the most beautiful lake in the world, Lake Atitlan."
Guest pass by local fisherman, indigenous Maya woman doing their washing and men working in the fields wearing their traditional Santiago shirts. We'll also enjoying views of three volcanoe lakes. Once at Cerro de Oro guests will hike this impressive hill to the sacred summit. Sometimes guest can witness Mayan rituals in process which is an amazing and authenic glimpse of local Mayan life in this area. You'll enjoy great views of the surrounding volcanoes from the top of this hill. Our hiking time will be about 3 hours or 3 miles/5Km with a challenging climb of 1165 feet gain or 350 mts.
When guest are ready they will be transferred back to the lodge on local pick-up trucks. After lunch guest will visit the town of Santiago. This lively Tzutuhil Maya town is known for its market and strange Maya God "Maximon." Locals revere and preform rituals in front of Maximon to bring good luck-or bad!
Today we'll transfer to the unique and gorgeous farm of Los Tarales on the slopes of the giant Atitlan volcano. Here, we'll learn about coffee processing and tour the tropical plant nursery. This is a working farm and it has its own school and a village. We'll explore the area by bike. Our biking time today will be about 1.5 hours and we'll go for 4 miles/6.6 kms with a 1000 feet elevation change. After the farm tour we'll transfer to Antigua and spend the next two nights.
Guest will have breakfast with the tour leader before they will transfer to Pacaya National Park where we will began our hiking ascent of this famous volcano! The hike takes appromimately 3 hours with an elevation gain of 1640 feet/500 meters. At the top you can see down into the crater and view the lava and experience the energy of the volcano. On the return to to Antigua you can enjoy a fun guided tour thrpought the colonial city. Dinner is on one of the many local restaurants. Overnight in Antigua, Hotel Aurora
or similar.
Today, after breakfast, we will have a 1-hour transfer to Guatemala City and take
a flight (less than 1 hour) to the northern rainforest in the Peten. A short drive brings
is deep into the rainforest to Tikal. Enjoy time at the pool and lunch
before starting our jungle trek ending at the impressive complex called "Mundo
Perdido" in time for sunset. We'll have dinner and stay overnight at Tikal National Park.
Today guests will be taken on a
guided tour of the famous Maya temple site in the jungle. Lunch is included
at a local restaurant. In the afternoon guests will be transferred to
the Flores airport for their evening flight (appriximately 1-hour) to Guatemala City. At the airport
you will be met by your transfer to take you to your hotel and the rest
of the evening is free to enjoy the nightlife of Guatemala City or Antigua. Overnight
in Guatemala City or Antigua.
After breakfast you will be met at your
hotel by your private transfer to take you to the airport in plenty of time for
your international flight out.
