The Lodges of Northern Pantanal:  Pouso Alegre
Pouso Alegre is a countryside lodge located at Poconé at marker 33km on the Transpantaneria Highway. Situated in a traditional Pantanal cattle farm, within 11.000 hectares (27,000 acres), this area has a great diversity of preserved Pantanal landscapes. There are no introduced species so you find traditional flora and fauna. There are large flooded fields of native grass, several kinds of forest and permanent and temporary water bodies. During both drought and flood, you can horseback ride to rarely visited places or explore via canoe.  Animals such as cayman, capybara, monkey, anacondas, deer and many different bird species can be found in the wild natural habitats. The lodge grounds also offer a wide range of birds including the hyacinth macaws, toucans, cardinals and the bird symbol of Pantanal, the jabiru stork. The combination of limited capacity, easy access, delicious typical food and peaceful ambience make of Pouso Alegre a great option for exploring the Pantanal.


DAY 1 - CUIABÁ / PANTANAL (Land photo-safari)
A bilingual guide will meet you at the Cuiabá airport and help transfer you to the Pousada Pouso Alegre in the Pantanal. During the drive along the Transpantaneira highway, we can stop as often as you want and you'll have wonderful photo opportunities to observe regional nature. After passing through the city of Poconé we will arrive at the Pousada Pouso Alegre Lodge. Settle in and enjoy a traditional dinner and a comfortable room. The lodge is built from brick and has 13 rooms. Each room is equipped with nets against mosquitoes, fan and bathroom. (D)

DAY 2 – PANTANAL - (Ecological trails, night observation)
After breakfast we'll go trekking on the ecological trails surrounding the lodge.  Keep your camera and binoculars ready for beautiful flora, birds and other animals. A sample of some of the animals in this area include: caymans, capybaras, monkey, anaconda and deer.  We'll return to the lodge for lunch.  In the afternoon, Pouso Alegre is a countryside lodge located at Poconé at marker 33km on the Transpantaneria Highway. Situated in a traditional Pantanal cattle farm, within 11.000 hectares (27,000 acres), this area has a great diversity of preserved Pantanal landscapes.we'll go trekking through a famous birding area: Capão das Araras. This is a nesting spot for hyacinth macaws but many different bird species can be found in the wild here including: toucans, parrots, cardinals, caracaras and the symbol of the Pantanal, the jabiru stork. In addition, many types of of Pantanal habitat surround the lodge such as semidecidual forest, thick savannah, floodable savannah and swamps and lakes. After dinner, we'll go on an unforgettable night safari with spotlights, with t he possibility of spotting the eyes of alligators and other night creatures. Overnight at Pousada Pouso Alegre. DAY 3 – PANTANAL (Horseback riding, ecological trails, and canoe ride)Pouso Alegre is a countryside lodge located at Poconé at marker 33km on the Transpantaneria Highway. Situated in a traditional Pantanal cattle farm, within 11.000 hectares (27,000 acres), this area has a great diversity of preserved Pantanal landscapes.
After the breakfast, we'll adventure by horseback through the fields and forests of the Pantanal. We'll visit an area with an elevated terrain, ride past an abandoned gardening area on the farm, and go deeper into the forest which is rich in bird species. Here, it is possible to get a deeper knowledge about the variety of the vegetation as well as its diversified fauna. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Claro River for a canoe ride and fishing. Dinner and overnight at Pousada Pouso Alegre. (B, L, D)

DAY 4 – PANTANAL / CUIABÁ (Sunrise hike)
Today you have the option of getting up early for a morning hike to see the sunrise. After breakfast, you'll have the morning free to enjoy the lodge surroundings. After lunch, we'll departure for the airport in Cuiabá. A guide will assist you in checking-in for your flight. (B,L)
