On Barranco Alto Farm you will have the rare opportunity to witness
the morning fishing of a giant otter family as dawn breaks and with luck
and patience, to look into the eyes of the biggest cat of the Americas: the
jaguar. Besides this, you can live the day-to-day life of an authentic Pantanal
cowboy, savour typical local dishes and
sleep in a traditional house which offers all the necessary comforts for
a cozy and unforgettable stay.

Barranco
Alto Farm has developed an eco friendly attitude towards the environment
and is committed conservation. The programs
and activities are offered in Portuguese, English, German, French and
Spanish and will be adapted to suit the particular desires of each guest.
Day 1 Arrive at Fazenda Barranco Alto
On arrival at the Campo Grande airport, an English-speaking representative
will welcome you. You will then have a short transfer (20 minutes) to the smaller
airport, Ching. Here you will board a Cessna 206 // 210 or a Piper Arrow for
an unforgettable 50 minute flight over the wetlands of the Pantanal to Fazenda
Barranco Alto. The fight will give you a wonderful view of the Pantanal with
its forested islands of trees, lagoons, lakes, channels, and scattered farmsteads
built on the highest ground to avoid the annual flooding. Often one can spot
tapir, capybara, flocks of birds and other animals while you fly at about 600
ft above the Pantanal.
After
checking into Fazenda Barranco Alto you may want to participate in the programs
and activities that are offered by the fazenda. All the activities are lead
by the English-speaking owners/biologist guides. Programs will be adapted to
suit the particular desires of the guests. Some of the possible activities
are: photo safari, exploring the Rio Negro by silent boats or kayaks, day and
night tours by horses, boats or on foot, bird-watching and animal spotting
by night with searchlights. Dinner and overnight at Fazenda Barranco Alto. (D).
Day 2/3/4 - Fazenda Barranco Alto The Fazenda
Barranco Alto lies in the middle of paradise, where water and earth merge
to hold the secrets of natures endless cycles. We’ll watch the beautiful
flight of hyacinth, blue-and-yellow and red-and-green macaws. Feel the force
of the howler monkeys roar and share our passion for nature. As dawn breaks
on Fazenda Barranco Alto you will have the rare opportunity to witness the
morning fishing of a giant otter family.
In
the early morning and evening you can enjoy the magnificent spectacle of
thousands of birds flying. In the Pantanal there are many types of parrots,
egrets, jays, cormorants, raptors, seriemas, plovers, sandpipers, skimmers,
terns, doves, cuckoos, owls, nightjars, potoos, hummingbirds, trogons, ovenbirds,
tanagers, cardinals, finches, blackbirds, orioles, spoonbills, woodpeckers,
tyrants, eagles, ibis, macaws, ducks, hawks, and toucans. The Jabiru (Jabiru
mycteria) is commonly seen here and has come to be a symbol of the Pantanal.
Macaws abound within this area. This is one of the last places where the
endangered Hyacinth Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus) can be seen daily. (B,L,D)
Day 5 - Fazenda Barranco Alto - Campo Grande
Depending on the departure time of your flight out of Campo Grande some activities
can be scheduled, before returning to Ching Airport in Campo Grande. From here
our driver picks you up to go to the International Airport for your flight. (B)
